MAMAN and THE LOCUST to compete in IFFA 2023
Arash Aneessee’s debut feature film, MAMAN, and Faeze Azizkhani’s second feature film, THE LOCUST, are invited to the competitive section of the 11th edition of Iranian Film Festival Australia to be held from November 9th to December 13th, 2023 in five cities including Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth.
THE LOCUST will be the opening film of the festival as well. The film was premiered in SXSW 2022 and since then, the film has participated in UCLA Celebration of Iranian Cinema 2022, Edinburgh IFF 2022 (Postcards from the Edge), Split IFF 2022 (Main Competition), Vancouver IFF 2022 (Vanguard Competition), Mostra – Sao Paulo IFF 2022 (New Directors Competition), SF Indie 2023 (Iranian Women Filmmakers Series), Festival of Iranian Films in Smithsonian Museum 2023 (Celebrating Bold Women Filmmakers program), Sguardi Altrove – Milan international Women’s FF 2023, Phoenix FF 2023 (Iranian Women Filmmakers Sidebar Section), Karlovy Vary IFF 2023 (Another Birth. Iranian Cinema Here and Now), RIFFA – Regina IFFA 2023 (Panorama Series) and Wales IFF 2023 (Best Film Nominee, Best Foreign Language Film Nominee).
MAMAN has been a part of the program at Debut Films Competition at IFFI – Goa 2021 and subsequently screened at Chennai IFF 2021, MIFF 2022, Wales IFF 2022 (Nominee – Best Foreign Language Film Award), Les Rimbaud du Cinema 2022 (Best Performances in a Leading Role and in a Supporting Role Awards) and Asian Film Festival Barcelona 2022 (Best Director Award).
