Synopsis:

An old musical instrument maker, who rents a room in his house to young musicians for rehearsals, starts an imaginative journey into the labyrinths of Iranian history with four lyricists who made the revolution in Persian traditional music.

Director’s View:

With a history of 2600 years, for a long time, music and lyrics were mainly used either for the feasts and the fights in the King’s courts or in the mystic circles of the spiritualists. Some 150 years ago, after Persian Constitutional Revolution, a musician and lyricist named Ali Akbar Sheida refused to go to the court and began to make romantic songs for the ordinary people. After twenty years, Aref Qazvini joined him and started to write protest songs. At that time, Farokhi Yazdi, a rebel journalist, started to publish his poems. And Qamarolmolouk Vaziri established her status as the first woman singer.

In LOVING EYES, I tried to delve into lives and thoughts of these four figures and merge the borders between the present and the past. Although I can feel that the Persian traditional music is fading now, I was determined to pay tribute to its founders and their motivations.

Director’s Profile:

Born in 1972, Seyed Jalal Aldin Dori has been active in the different fields of scriptwriting and production in Iranian film and TV industry.

A graduate of Law, Dori began his work as a scriptwriter in 2003. He made his debut feature film, LOVING EYES, in 2020.
