Logline:

Synopsis:

Amir is recently deported from France. Unemployed and idle, he is obliged to stay at his father’s house. For the sake of his father, he gets involved in a horrifying crime which consequently leads him towards the foreign currencies black market. But he knows that the mystery should be unfolded in the last act…

Director’s View:

Looking into the financial situation in Iran today, everyone is aware that the economy acts as an evil butcher. In these circumstances, there are so many innocent people who are ruthlessly victimized. These potential victims may breathe, eat, laugh and fall in love, but they live in fear since they do not know when the butcher will come for them. They are enchanted by the evil butcher. And it’s the way that the evil will go on…

Director’s Profile:

Born in Abadan in 1983, Abbas Amini started making short films at the age of 13. In 2001, he moved to Tehran, worked as assistant director and then began making documentary films especially on social and child welfare issues. After directing a number of shorts and documentaries on social issues and the terrible consequences of the Iran/Iraq war, he joined the ‘Association for the Protection of Child Labourers’ (APCL) as a volunteer 10 years ago. His debut and SECOND feature films, VALDERAMA and HENDI AND HORMOZ, were both premiered and acclaimed in Berlinale and then entered international film festivals circuit. Amini served as a jury member in the Generation section of Berlinale 2020.
