A CHILDLESS VILLAGE to compete in Tallinn
In the 26th POFF – Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (November 11th to 27th, 2022 / Estonia), Reza Jamali’s second film, A CHILDLESS VILLAGE, enters Critics’ Pick competitive section.
After his success with his debut feature film, OLD MEN NEVER DIE, which brought him the Spirits of Asia Award at Tokyo IFF and entered international festival circuits, Reza Jamali returns to his own village with no name (somewhere like Yoknapatawpha or Macondo), in the heights of Iranian Azerbaijan provinces, to depict some villagers believing that all the women living there are barren. So the men are constantly divorcing their wives and remarry. A rural filmmaker starts making a film on the women’s narratives of living in the village. Witty, funny and visually striking, A CHILDLESS VILLAGE is a story of women, oppressed by lies and superstitions, in a traditional society.
