A CHILDLESS VILLAGE wins International Feature Fiction Award at KIMFF 2024
In the 21st edition of KIMFF – Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (May 29th to June 2nd, 2024 / Nepal), Reza Jamali’s second feature film, A CHILDLESS VILLAGE, wins the International Feature Fiction Award.
The jury panel describes the film in their words as ;
“The Iranian director Reza Jamali has managed to wrap up the delicate subject of infertility in a humorous, intelligent, and entertaining movie.
He paints a vivid picture of a remote village where the women were childless and therefore considered infertile. An elderly filmmaker wanted to make a documentary about it 20 years ago. His film was never finished because the women burned the footage. Two decades later, it turns out that the men are infertile. Kazem decides to return with his camera.
The story is very cleverly composed, the beautiful mountains and valleys of the surrounding landscape are superbly photographed, and the actresses are convincing in every moment.”
The film has been already screened at Tallinn IFF 2022 (Critics’ Pick Competition), Red Sea IFF 2022 (Yusr Award for the Best Screenplay), Dhaka IFF 2023 (Cinema of World), Pune IFF 2023 (Global Cinema), Matera FF 2023 (Best Feature Film Award), Mostra – Sao Paulo IFF 2023 (New Filmmakers Competition), Lublin FF 2023 (Feature Films Section), this human world – International Human Rights Film Festival 2023 (Iranian Film Focus), Alternativa Film Awards 2023 (Best Feature Film Nominee), Chicago International Indie FF 2023 (Feature Length Narrative), Sofia MENAR – Sofia Middle East & North Africa Region FF 2024 (Official Selection), Iranian Film Festival in New York – IrFFNY 2024 (Artistic or Technical Achievement Award), Crossing the Screen – Eastbourne IFF 2024 (Competition) and KIMFF – Kathmandu International Mountain FF 2024 (Best Feature Film Award).
