JUNKS & DOLLS to compete in Galway 2024

In the 36th edition of Galway Film Fleadh (July 9th to 14th, 2024 / Ireland), Manijeh Hekmat’s JUNKS & DOLLS will be a part of the World Cinema Competition program.

Best-known for her big ventures in WOMEN’S PRISON, THREE WOMEN and BANDAR BAND, this time, Hekmat goes to a real landfill in the northern forests of Iran to portray love as the lost element in the contemporary world. In the odd story of a deserted couple, she depicts the miracle of loving the creativity, loving the sustainability, loving the others and loving the nature to build up a small, private heaven in the middle of a wasteland – however the young couple, just like Adam and Eve, is destined to be expelled from heaven times and times again…

The film has been previously screened at Kolkata IFF 2023 (Special Screening), IFF of Kerala 2023 (World Cinema), Dhaka IFF 2024 (Best Film Award in the Women Filmmakers Competition), Women’s IFF 2024 (World Cinema), Phoenix Film Festival 2024 (World Cinema Competition) and SIEFF – Seoul International Eco Film Festival 2024 (International Competition).
