MAMAN to compete at IFFI – Goa 2021
In its international premiere, Arash Aneessee’s first feature film, MAMAN, will be a part of Debut Competition at the 52nd International Film Festival of India – Goa (November 20th to 28th, 2021 / India).
Working with Majid Barzegar (director of PARVIZ and A VERY ORDINARY CITIZEN) as producer, Arash Aneessee avoids the iconic, holy mother stereotype, frequently seen in Iranian Cinema, and forms a unique mama character, seeking the seizure of power over her three sons by keeping them hostile to each other. The film which won the Best Actress Award in Fajr National Film Festival for Roya Afshar’s bravura performance as a woman cab driver, creates two parallel worlds in the actual life and the fictional world in the script one of her sons is writing. Witty, ironic and profound, MAMAN essentially builds up a modern day tragedy, turning a Lady Macbeth kind of character from a wife into a mom.
